It all started in 2001 when my doctor suggested I try yoga to help relieve symptoms of stress, anxiety and other health issues. Little did I know, this recommendation became the catapult for changing my life. Up until this point, I believed that self-care was a luxury, even selfish. For some reason, I believed that doing something nice for myself was indulgent. Deeply moved by the benefits of yoga and mindfulness, I realized that self-care is NECESSARY for well-being. I found that yoga and meditation were vital to feeling better physically, mentally and emotionally. These practices also allowed me to have more patience, understanding and bandwidth off my yoga mat - improving relationships, stressful situations and my overall health and wellness.
In 2016, I decided to leave my full-time career and enroll in a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training with Sanctuary Studios in Plymouth, MA. My intention was to grow and heal - physically, mentally and emotionally. After graduating, I began teaching yoga in studios, gyms, schools, beaches and apartment communities.
In 2020, I was honored to have received my 500hr Advanced Yoga Teacher Certification with Jacqui Bonwell, Sacred Seeds Yoga School in Canton, MA. Jacqui's wisdom opened my eyes to teaching and living my life in a whole new light. During this training, I was introduced to Johnny Gillespie and functional movement. Hungry to learn more, I studied with Johnny and became a Balanced Athlete® Level One Certified Coach. These functional principles are not only critical for aging gracefully, but they influence the way I teach all of my classes and the way I move throughout my daily activities.
Like many quarantining during covid, I was in search of something more. My 200hr Yoga Teacher Training curriculum emerged from this time of deep reflection. I received accreditation from Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga School (RYS-200) and opened a studio. Since then, I’ve graduated 25 new instructors, and facilitated continuing education and many certification programs.
In addition to leading retreats, workshops and weekly classes, I enjoy teaching Meditation and Stress Management classes for local corporations, growing our beach yoga community and writing a Monthly Mindfulness column in our local newspaper.
My mission is to create a safe, relaxing and supportive atmosphere to encourage growing, healing and redefining self-care through life’s ups and downs - on and off the yoga mat. I teach with authenticity - about my practice, my life, my experiences (good and bad) because I believe that when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, we are able to hold space for others to do the same. We all grow stronger, together.
Our yoga community is NOT about touching our toes or doing headstands. Our yoga community is built on compassion, acceptance, trust, empowerment and equality. My classes incorporate a unique mind-body-soul approach to breathing, functional movement and traditional yoga teachings in a way that is accessible and relatable to ALL bodies and ALL abilities.
I am most proud of my role as a mother of two sons. They are a constant reminder for me to keep learning and evolving, to lead by example, to embrace stepping out of my comfort zone, and to listen with understanding and compassion. When I’m not on my yoga mat, I enjoy traveling, creating something artistic, writing or spending time with my family and rescue pup, Ruby.
